Folk Remedy

DC Comics
Release: 01 Mar 1993
Cover: 01 May 1993

Plot: Swamp Thing awakens in Danu’s Holler, in the care of a hidden group called The Folk. They were the first to master smithing and woodworking and their leaders were courageous and skilled warriors. Humans respected them at first, but then grew mistrustful, which led to hatred and fear and forced the Folk to flee. Swamp Thing recounts the Proteus battle and how he came to be so grievously wounded and cannot re-enter the Green. Mave, the Folks’ leader, tells him he’ll die without help. He can’t regenerate; Mave can help him but will he like the result? It seems he hasn’t much choice. The Folk manage to sing him back to health and purge the toxins, but he looks different – so different that Gene LaBostrie does not recognize him! It gets worse: Tefé and Abby do not recognize him, either (they have been interacting with his copy, and the two of them are no longer identical). Tefé goes to Lady Jane and tells her (!) there is a “strange Daddy looking for Mommy!” He explains that he made a copy so he could handle the Proteus problem, and she asks the copy. It asserts that she is his wife! Which will prevail?
